Talking of Number Talks

Number strings, which are purposefully planned strings of short number problems, can help develop mental math and computational abilities in children. Teachers throughout the Innovations project have been integrating number strings, or “number talks,” as they see the benefits of this high-impact daily routine. Number talks meets not only the Common Core Content Standards for math but also encourages students to use the mathematical practices such as reasoning abstractly and quantitatively, making use of structure and constructing viable arguments, and critiquing the reasoning of others.
