Comparing Capacity at the Sand Table
At the sand table, ideas and exploration involving capacity is a natural and healthy math opportunity.
Why is this important?
What kind of “big” is it? This question is fundamental to all of measurement. Here, children explore the differences between tall and wide as they decide which bucket holds the most sand. Notice how the teacher gently steers the conversation away from competition by helping the children focus on different attributes of the buckets.
