Dot Card Transition Activity
Transition time is a great time for mathematizing a daily routine. This dot card transition is a relatively simple routine that builds number sense in a concrete way.

Why is this important?
More powerful than traditional numeral flashcards, dot cards encourage children to focus on the cardinal amount of a set of dots. They connect the number word to its quantity. When they have to produce a similar-sized set of fingers, children must translate from one representation (dots) to another representation (fingers) while working with the same quantity.
