Erikson Institute, in partnership with Carroll County Public Library, Chandler Public Library, Cleveland Public Library, and Prince George Memorial County Libraries was awarded a grant (#RE-250096-OLS-21) by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) in 2021 to support the project, Supporting 21st Century Librarians: Media Literacy Professional Development for Youth Librarians.
The project outcomes include increasing librarians’ knowledge of and confidence in media literacy practice and developing a scalable model of librarian professional development focused on media literacy in childhood.
Erikson Institute and partner spearheaded the iterative development and delivery of a new professional development program, Erikson Institute’s Early Childhood Media Literacy Professional Development Program. The report includes the iterative program development and implementation, a facilitator guide, and program materials.
The intention of this report is to equip library staff with an accessible, scalable professional development program which has been proven to increase library staff knowledge and confidence in supporting young children and families with media literacy education.
